On Thursday 12 July 1962 the Rolling Stones went on stage at the Marquee Club in London’s Oxford Street. In the intervening fifty years the Stones have performed live in front of more people than any band… ever.

They’ve had No.1 singles and albums in every country that has a popular music chart and have helped define popular culture. Now Thames & Hudson is delighted to announce the publication of the only official and authorized book to celebrate the band’s 50th anniversary.

The book has been made possible by privileged access to superb reportage photography from the Daily Mirror’s archive, the largest newspaper collection of Rolling Stones photography, most of it hitherto unseen. The images tell their fifty-year history like it’s never been told before.  This photographic autobiography features images selected by the band accompanied by their own words.

The photographers include Gered Mankowitz, Jean-Marie Périer, Dezo Hoffman, Michael Cooper, Terry O’Neill, Bent Rej and Philip Townsend – the photographer for their first ever shoot.

Some of the most rare and interesting Stones’ memorabilia has been specially photographed for this volume.

This remarkable book is the band’s thank you to their fans all over the world. Its publication on 12 July 2012 will be on the anniversary of the band’s first ever gig, and will be part of a year long celebration of the rock‘n’roll royalty that the Rolling Stones have become.

Mirrorpix is the home of one of Britain’s largest photographic archive resources, charting the history of the 20th Century and beyond through the lenses of such pioneers of press photojournalism as The Grant Brothers, Ernest Brookes and George Greenwell to name but a few. The collections are added to on a daily basis with contemporary material and we’re now looking to recruit a new member of staff to join our busy Archive Team in North Watford.

As a commercial library working in a competitive environment we are looking for a team player who understands the demands on a modern picture agency.

Main Responsibilities:
- Liaise directly with our commercial team on internal and external client requests and help coordinate research activities between our group archives
- Ability to understand a research brief and deliver accurate results on time
- Digital image processing, including capture, colour correction and repair as required of heritage images
- Accurate and efficient captioning and keywording of historic and contemporary images
- Quality control of online content
- Maintaining the upkeep of a hardcopy library of over 60 million print and negative assets
- Liaise with clients and colleagues on visits to the archives

Required Skills:
- Ability to work as a team member is essential
- Work quickly and accurately in a pressured, deadline led environment.
- Excellent telephone manner and interpersonal skills
- Good spelling and grammar skills required.

Required Knowledge:
- An interest in photography and a sound demonstrable knowledge of 20th century and contemporary history and the personalities involved is essential
- Understanding of both hard copy print and negative scanning processes
- A minimum of 1 year’s digital imaging/Photoshop experience.
- Computer literate on both Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows
- Experience of digital image delivery processes and how picture libraries use websites to deliver content to their clients is essential.

BEATLEMANIA is set to return to Paris next month, thanks to a fantastic photographic exhibition from Mirrorpix charting the rise and rise of The Beatles.

The exhibition previously opened in the Netherlands in December 2010 and exclusively features 100 images from the Mirror archives - each one hand-picked to appeal to print collectors and Beatles fans alike.

The exhibition is a venture between Dutch based V!Ps Art and Mirrorpix.

Fergus McKenna of Mirrorpix said: "The reaction to Beatlemania in Amsterdam was fantastic and so we're delighted to be taking our Beatles collection to Paris.

“We're especially delighted as the venue for the exhibition is the prestigious Galerie Photo 12, a venue renowned for championing modern photographic masters."

When Prince William marries next year, it will be the most anticipated royal wedding since that of his parents, Charles and Diana, in 1981.

This Daily Mirror souvenir special celebrates the engagement of William and his long-term girlfriend, Kate Middleton.

It documents his life in the public eye since his birth in 1982, through school and early royal duties, plus how he coped with the tragic loss of his mother when he was only 15.

We see him growing up at university, where he met Kate, and going on to combine tireless charity work with training in the armed forces. This has led to a career as a search and rescue helicopter pilot for the RAF.

The publication also shows how William’s relationship with Kate has developed over the years up until their engagement, announced in November 2010.
